Ship deck crane is a heavy duty slewing lifting equipment specially designed for cargo handling at sea, which is made of a high-strength steel structure and fixed directly on the deck of the ship. The product has 360°full slewing capability, equipped with an advanced hydraulic control system and anti-swaying technology, which ensures millimeter-level accurate positioning even under complex sea conditions. The lifting capacity of the standard model covers the range of 5-40 tons, and the special customized model can reach 60 tons, which meets the needs of loading and unloading all kinds of bulk cargoes, containers, and heavy equipment.

We offer both single (single Deck Crane) and twin (twin Deck Crane) configurations. The Double Deck Crane system uses a patented synchronized control technology that allows the two cranes to work independently or in tandem, increasing the maximum lifting capacity to 80 tons. It is suitable for bulk carriers, container ships, engineering vessels, offshore supply vessels, and other types of vessels.

Ship Deck Crane Parts And Functions

The ship deck crane consists of a slewing platform, a pitching jib, and a core drive system, adopting a modular design to realize efficient loading and unloading operations. The functions of the main components are as follows:

  • Slewing platform, adopting high-strength steel structure, is equipped with 360°full-slewing hydraulic/electric drive system and integrated maneuvering room to realize multi-agency cooperative control;
  • Pitching boom system: adopting wind and wave resistant truss design, realizing -20°~+80° variation through hydraulic cylinder, and optional telescopic structure to extend the working radius;
  • Hoisting mechanism: equipped with main and vice hook double reel system, with safety brake, overload protection, and wire rope anti-jumping device;
  • Power system: electric frequency conversion control (high energy efficiency) and hydraulic full power matching (adaptable to severe sea conditions) are provided as two drive modes, and the hydraulic model complies with IMO Tier III emission standards.
  • Safety control system: integrated torque limiter, angle sensor, anti-collision system, and hydraulic emergency hand pump device, all key components are certified by CCS/DNV/GL and other classification societies for marine grade anti-corrosion treatment.

Working Principle

A ship deck crane operates as a slewing jib crane mounted on vessels, utilizing a combination of mechanical and hydraulic/electric systems to handle cargo. Its Working Principle is as follows:

  • Sollevamento - Wire rope drum lifts/lowers loads via electric or hydraulic motor.
  • Slewing - 360° rotation is enabled by the slew bearing and the drive unit.
  • Luffing - Hydraulic cylinders or ropes adjust the boom angle for reach control.

Modern ship deck cranes come in various configurations to meet diverse maritime needs, with the most common types including knuckle boom cranes, telescopic cranes, and stiff boom cranes. Knuckle boom cranes offer exceptional flexibility with articulated arms, ideal for precision cargo handling in tight spaces. Telescopic models provide adjustable reach capabilities, perfect for vessels requiring variable working radii. For heavy-duty applications, stiff boom cranes deliver superior lifting capacity (up to 250 tons) and stability in rough sea conditions. Specialized variants include container handling cranes with spreader attachments and offshore cranes featuring enhanced corrosion protection. Each type is available in electric, hydraulic, or hybrid drive systems, with options for fixed, slewing, or travel base installations to suit specific vessel layouts and operational requirements.
