As one of the 172 major water conservancy projects in the “13th Five-Year Plan” of the State Council, the Mianpanshan Hydropower Hub Project in Zhongxiang City, Hubei Province, innovatively utilizes nine Weihua heavy-duty gantry cranes in its construction. This national key project, with a total investment of 6.636 billion yuan, realizes the comprehensive functions of power generation, shipping, irrigation, and water supply through the configuration of large-tonnage gantry crane systems.
Project Challenge
The hub project needs to undertake multiple tasks, such as flood control and dispatching, hydropower generation, and navigation management, and the equipment must be able to operate stably for a long period in high humidity and highly corrosive environments.
All gantry crane systems need to be involved in the opening and closing of gates, unit lifting, precision installation of equipment, etc., requiring equipment with multi-functional, high-precision positioning and flexible operation performance, to adapt to the complex space and operating conditions of the environment.
As a national key infrastructure project, the entire gantry crane system needs to meet multiple safety protection mechanisms, including overload protection, anti-swing control, limit protection, etc., while integrating operational status monitoring, remote diagnosis, and a fault warning system to achieve the whole process of intelligent safety control.
The gantry crane installation area has a complex structure and limited lifting space, the installation process needs to strictly control the impact of construction on the surrounding structure. Higher professionalism and coordination requirements are put forward for the installation process, construction organization, and equipment commissioning.
The overall construction cycle of the project is tight, requiring the gantry crane to complete the design, manufacturing, transportation, installation, and commissioning in a short period of time to ensure that the entire project is constructed on schedule.

Innovative reel design: adopting patented double-layer folded edge rope groove technology, completely solving the problem of messy rope and friction of traditional cranes, and extending the service life of wire rope by more than 50%.
All-round safety protection: triple safety monitoring system, including real-time monitoring of the status of the holding brake, the degree of wear and tear, and motor temperature; motor life prediction system, early warning of maintenance needs, in line with the highest safety standards GB/T 14405-2011.
Intelligent operation and maintenance system: equipped with remote monitoring terminals, key parameters are stored and analyzed in the cloud to realize preventive maintenance.
